This man this Icon is the Griot, the Historian of our generation and probably for all time. He is par excellence in his field, No Kitch, No Melody or Spoiler, no Stalin or Rudder can compare. He has touched on every subject matter in and of our lives. Govt, Religion, Women, Intl Politics, Africa, the Queen, Steelband, other Calypsonians, Keep the City Clean, Dr Eric Williams (the Visionary) the Federation, English language, dem girls round the corner, His travels, he has sung in Spanizh, Creole (French) English, He is an honourary African Chief. This record I can safely say is the best I have heard. It has brought back so many memories and is so well put together that it touches on genres as humor, religion, politics, culture and social issues. I think that by listening to this record for the last four hours I can truly appreciate the Mighty Sparrow as a true artist who really is the greatest representative of Grenada and Trinidad and the Caribbean culture. Students and researchers at universities can use this record to have a clear picture of events that have occurred throughout the years. Calypso in its truest sense! Sparrow really can be considered an artifact (smile). Thanks Sparrow, you have made this cold day in the USA, warm again. I could have a whole party with this music alone. Well put together indeed..Congrats. May you live many more years…

I remember seeing Sparrow as a kid with my father in Colon Panama (colon arena) about 1958 singing SAILOR MAN & DOROTHY. Sparrow an international calypsonian along with LORD PANAMA and many others. The Mighty Sparrow will always be one of the king of calypso. (sparrow will never come back to panama)smile. It sure bring joy back to my life remembering all those tunes. This was well put together and the hole staff should be congrad for a job well done.

The Mighty Sparrow is the Great One – true Calypso King of the World. Pray for him…

The Mighty Sparrow in a coma
    watching with eyes closed
like he sweating in a sauna
    inside the man is singing
    letting we know
    who is Calypso King
    his heartbeat not so steady
    but just remember
    he is a die-hard Trini
    hey, hey, hey
    the Sparrow say
    put your hands together
    and pray man, just pray..

Condition of the Mighty Sparrow improves
Family statement: world’s calypso monarch “is alert and attempting to communicate” in New York City Hospital
    by Tony Best

The Mighty Sparrow, the soca and calypso monarch, whose music has been a joy to millions of lovers of Caribbean music, is showing significant signs of recovery.
That’s according to his daughter, Gina-Lorain Francisco, who told the Carib News yesterday (Tuesday) that the music icon whose hit tunes beginning in the 1950s have brought smiles to the faces of lovers of Caribbean music every year for more than half of a century, is “responding well to treatment” after lapsing into a coma in New York City.
“As each day passes, we continue to see improvement in his condition,” said his daughter. “He is alert and attempting to communicate. While we do see progress, his condition still requires that the staff remains quite attentive to his care. We are thankful to the nursing staff that has shown compassion and concern, and we are grateful for all your prayers and expressions of love. We ask if you would continue to pray for his complete recovery.”
On Monday, Gina Lorain Francisco released a statement which read: “The family of Dr. Slinger Francisco, the Mighty Sparrow is pleased to announce that he is responding well to treatment and we are very hopeful he will continue to recover from a coma. We will maintain communication regarding his condition. Thank you to all the fans and friends that have extended support; and we ask that you continue to pray for his full recovery. We pray also for you… God’s richest blessings.”
She later said her father “is resting comfortably” in hospital and “his condition is improving. He is doing much better. The family is very, very grateful to all those who have called to express their gratitude and appreciation of his work, his personality and contribution. We are really very grateful for their prayers and well wishes. That’s all we are concentrating on right now. The family is rallying around him and we are doing what we do as a family.”
Sparrow, 78, is considered the world’s greatest calypso and soca artiste. He is perhaps best known for such memorable hits, dating back to the early the 1950s as “Ten to One is Murder,” “Mae Mae,” “Congo Man” the “Big Bambo,” “Leave the Damn Doctor Alone” and in more recent times, “Barack the Magnificent, an ode to President Barack Obama has been honored by the government of Trinidad and Tobago and by the University of the West Indies which presented him with an honorary doctorate.
