Miss Universe Leila Lopes paid a courtesy call on President Donald Ramotar in the company of a small entourage three days before she makes a special guest appearance at the 2012 Miss Guyana Universe pageant.

The 27-year-old native of Angola who made history as the first woman from that country to win the Miss Universe crown in Sao Paulo, Brazil had an enlightening conversation with the Head of State in the presence of Acting Minister of Tourism Irfaan Ali, Minister of Human Services and Social Security Jennifer Webster and Presidential Adviser on Community Development Odinga Lumumba.              Continue reading

The Portuguese and Chinese language barriers are expected to be a key hurdle that enumerators for the National Population and Housing Census intend to cross.

Census Day is September 15 when 3,500 enumerators would begin fanning out across the 83,000 square mile country to interview all persons residing in Guyana during the next six weeks.

Aubrey Gordon wins USA Masters Cycle Road Race

Aubrey Gordon powers to the finish line in an exciting sprint.

USA based Guyanese rider Aubrey Gordon, who competes in the 55-59 Men’s Masters category, continues to blaze the trail in the big apple chalking up yet another major win in his cycling career.

Representing Liberty Cycle, Gordon won the USA Cycling Masters Road National Criterium which was held on September 8. The consistent high end performer now has his eyes set on the Masters Track Championships which will be held in Manchester England, next month.
