St. Joseph High School Reunion 2012 – August 25th to September 1st, 2012 – Brooklyn, New York
“Celebrating a Culture of Pride & Excellence in Education and Service”
Hundreds of alumni, former staff members and friends of St. Joseph High School are getting ready to celebrate the school’s 5th triennial international reunion, which will take place in Brooklyn, New York of the USA, from August 25th to September 1st, 2012.
On Saturday, August 25th, REUNION 2012 will kick off with a Family Fun & Sports Day at Brooklyn’s Canarsie Park on Seaview Avenue & East 89th Street, from 12 noon. Sack, lime & spoon and three-legged races along with circle tennis (“rounders”) and tug-o-war will be some of the inter-house activities on the day’s programme.
Sunday, August 26th will commence with an 11:30 morning mass at Our Lady of Refuge RC Church, located at 2020 Foster Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11210, corner of Ocean Avenue. This will be followed by a sumptuous lunch and grand variety show at the AFRIKA HOUSE banquet hall, located a short distance away, at 2265 Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11226, corner of Snyder Avenue. Dubbed the Blue Ribbon Extravaganza, this event will present the melodious Chronicle Atlantic Symphony Steel Orchestra, singing performances, dramatic poetry, messages from the various associates, a showcase of the uniforms worn over the last fifty years, and a keynote address to be delivered by the current headmistress.
On Monday, August 27th, there will be an evening symposium to examine the challenges and opportunities in maintaining an environment of high achievement and excellence at the Georgetown high school. Panelists will include the headmistress and alumni chapter executives. The forum will be held at 454 Vermont Street, Brooklyn, NY 11207, and it will commence at 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday, August 28th will be Casino Night. Members and friends will journey to the new and attractive Aqueduct Racetrack Casino Resort in South Ozone Park, Queens, New York for a night of exciting electronic games and exotic foods. After a rest day on Wednesday, the celebration will resume with a Nostalgia/Country Night on:
Thursday, August 30th. This outdoor cultural affair will showcase Guyanese folk songs, queh-queh dancing, drumming, folk tales, delicious country cuisine and indoor games. Folk icon, Hilton Hemerding, and popular drummer, Akoyaw, will lead the show. The venue will be 454 Vermont Street, Brooklyn, NY 11207.
On Friday, August 31st, the party will move uptown to the famous Cotton Club in Harlem, New York for a live Rhythm & Blues / Jazz Dinner Show, starting at 8:00 p.m.
Saturday, September 1st will welcome the world-famous Labor-Day Weekend in Brooklyn, which will also set the scene for the closing event. It will be a fabulous dance featuring the dynamic sounds of D.J. Zeus and a complimentary menu of delectable Guyanese dishes. The event will be held at the spacious Sanders Studio, located at 525 Waverly Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11238, and in collaboration with St. Stanislaus College and St. Rose’s High School Alumni Associations. This is the fifth annual joint presentation by these three schools, and now a staple on the Labor-Day Weekend entertainment calendar.
