Guyana at the precipice – AFC

First They Came for the Jews

First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

This week, once again, Guyana has found itself in the throes of mourning: mourning not only lost lives but the death of justice and liberty.
On July 18, 2012, armed ranks of the Guyana Police Force used shotguns against unarmed citizens of our country. When the hail of gunfire stopped three persons lay dead, many others injured, many more were traumatized.        Continue reading

Region 10 Chairman, Sharma Solomon has condemned those committing crimes during the “peoples struggle” to demand no electricity increase and justice in connection with police killings that left three people dead last week.

Addressing a well-attended public meeting in Linden on Saturday night, Solomon said organisers would not tolerate criminal acts that seek to smudge the now four-day old protest.
“We strongly condemn those who want to loot and rob and thief and steal. It is was never a political struggle, it was never a racial struggle, it was always a peoples struggle and we will maintain and keep it a people’s struggle,” said Solomon…..   more [ Region 10 Chairman condemns criminals]

Education: Marva Collins 1995 Part 1 and 2

Marva Collins’ celebrated style of teaching – in Chicago

In 1995, a book was published claiming, among other things, that Marva Collins‘ celebrated style of teaching was “too good to be true.” After reading the synopsis, Morley Safer of 60 Minutes decided to re-visit a story he reported on 16 years previously. What ever happened to Marva Collins’ students? Where were they now? Is Westside Preparatory still functioning? The results surprised even the most hardened cynics.

This is part 1 of a new look at Marva Collins 16 years since the first 60 Minutes interview. Enjoy.
