Finance Minister, wife in Auditor General’s Office conflict of interest- Transparency Institute
Thursday, 28 June 2012 – Demerara Waves
Transparency Institute of Guyana Inc. (TIGI) on Wednesday weighed in on the recent decision to promote Finance Minister, Dr. Ashni Singh’s wife as an Audit Director of the Office of the Auditor General (OAG), arguing that it amounts to a conflict of interest that can erode public confidence in the entity.
Mrs. Gitanjali Singh’s appointment was among several recently green-lighted by the Public Accounts Committee when the government used its temporary majority to rush through its desires. That occurred when Alliance For Change (AFC) member of the PAC, Trevor Williams arrived late from Essequibo. When contacted late Wednesday night after a sitting of the National Assembly, the Finance Minister declined to comment on the matter.
TIGI has echoed similar concerns raised by A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) and the AFC. The non-governmental organisation, which has previously engaged government on corruption and transparency issues at public fora, said it “is extremely concerned at the recent promotion” of Singh. [more]

This is what you call # # @ @ %% of Guyana’s politics. Where in the world would something like this happen. I am so mad that WORDS cannot attest my anger. Bull crap.
It is said in scriptural language that “Who the Gods love and wish to destroy, they first make you Mad” The protracted madness is evident in the Government of the President Ramotar. Let’s see how long they will last. The wife of the MInister by accepting that position has brought dis honour to her husband whom she has promised in her marriage vows to bring honour and fame to by her very actions. She is in breach of her marriage vows and should resign forthwith. I rest my case as a Hindu husband and ceremonial oath taker. Nothing good will come to her in this unholy alliance!
