Guyanese among 110 busted in mega credit card scam in NYC

Largest Identity Theft Case In U.S. History: Amar Singh And Wife, Neha Punjani-Singh, Plead Guilty To Massive Fraud

The Huffington Post | By Allie Compton Posted: 08/07/2012

DEBIT TO SOCIETY: A few of the hundred-plus alleged scammers involved in a massive fake-credit-card ring are led into Queens court.
Amar Singh was sentenced today after pleading guilty for his role in one of the largest ID theft and credit card scams in US history.
A cast of unsavory characters from Queens was busted for allegedly manufacturing thousands of bogus credit cards and using them on massive shopping sprees and luxury vacations.
The two-year investigation ended this week, as authorities smashed several fraud rings and arrested 110 people (most of them Guyanese) around the borough, according to court records and sources.
“They went everywhere — Apple stores, Macy’s, Nordstrom’s, anywhere you can possible imagine,” said a law-enforcement source.

Amar Singh

One of the rings was led by (Guyanese) Amar Singh, who was described in court papers as “overseeing the entire operation” — including an army of shoppers and fences to convert high-end goods to cash.
Singh allegedly received blank credit cards and account numbers from his contacts and had a whole crew of henchmen to help cash in with the phony plastic.
To complete the ruse, the crew allegedly forged identity cards.
Sources said that Singh employed his girlfriend, Neaj Punjani Singh, 21, as his top lieutenant — and that she would receive the high-ticket items purchased with the fake cards and funnel the cash through her personal bank account.
“They all go shopping: You go here, you go there, you buy this, you buy that,” the source said.
Both Singhs were held on $1 million bail.

The Queens District Attorney’s Office and the NYPD declined comment, citing a press conference planned for after the arrest.

Investigators had been watching the various rings for two years, according to sources.
One defendant, Carlos Plaza , 26, was using forged cards to jet down to Miami and Puerto Rico on a private jet, the sources said.
“They were partying. This was bought on stolen credit cards,” a source said.
Plaza is charged with enterprise corruption, identity theft and grand larceny.
He allegedly manufactured credit cards in his Richmond Hill home and was held on US$250,000 bail.
Investigators, who used extensive wiretaps, also came across other crimes during the probe, sources said.
Angel Quinones, a security guard with military experience, was charged with grand larceny for allegedly stealing more than $850,000 worth of computer equipment from a Citigroup location. He was held on $100,000 bail.
The parade of arrests had local bail bondsmen working overtime.
“This is a once-a-year kind of bust. These are the biggest enterprise-corruption cases we’ve seen,” said Jason Fordin, vice president of Empire Bail Bonds, noting that the only roundups of this size had involved gambling.
The credit-card fraud defendants represent “the diversity of Queens ,” he said.

Qns. D.A. Announces The Largest ID Theft Ring Bust In U.S. History
In what was described as the largest identity theft takedown in U.S. history, 111 individuals comprising five organized ID theft rings were charged last Friday, Oct. 7 with crimes costing people and businesses over $13 million in losses over a 16- month period, Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown and Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly announced.
Eighty-six of the defendants are in custody, while 25 are presently being sought by authorities.
In addition, nearly two dozen of the men charged in the ID theft ring have also been charged with participating in burglaries and robberies throughout Queens, including a bank robbery in Forest Hills, the theft of over $95,000 worth of cargo from Kennedy Airport , and the theft of about $850,000 worth of computer equipment in Long Island City.

Need to see their pictures – this unscrupulous people make it difficult for law abiding citizens to be given a fair chance to visit. Send them home to Guyana!

    • anna  On 10/08/2011 at 11:36 pm

Well they r in the majority in every way possible; numbers, professionals, technology, visas, smartness, greed, crime-murder, theft, etc u name it.
they do everything and anything to have riches, just like de white man.And they are openly religious. And u dont hear about sinning and god’s punishment in those circles. You can’t pray more than them or appear to be holier than them. But poor asses r schooled about Jesus, and how sinful it would be to cheat, steal, murder etc. when de rich and privileged committing those very crimes daily and living happily when de honest asses living wretched lives sadly.
Imagine u work very hard and deprive urself of recreation to save some cash and some greedy swine fleeces u out of it and he goes to jail and u r left financially embarrassed. I SAY HAND THEM OVER TO THE PEOPLE THEY ROBBED.
it is strange though how both these races demonise the black skin as de people who commit all types of crimes, while de black man adores them, even marrying them and sharing his hard earned black dollar with them. Well he has his money and dem hand don’t have hair, so to speak. TALK ABOUT BLACK-MAN LOVING DEMSELF.
But i know as long as u r human whether u black, indian, chiney or white, u have de human potential to b good, bad or indifferent.
Yet these vagabonds r not stereotyped like de blackman.
Is it because their skin colour is cream/tan?
Black-man what does ur skin colour represent? disunity, stupidity or spititual destruction?
      Reflect, Rethink,Reminisce, …and…….Renaissance, maybe.

I love your analogy and the way you broke things down. These are exactly my thoughts about Blacks and religion. The larger powers use religion to keep us in line and like sheep most of us just ingest and regurgitate. God…love…reside within and directs one to do right and live within your conscious. These people have no souls, no guilt. They are just heartless. Black is indeed beautiful but we have to believe it first before we can live it.

You are 100 percent correct, same thing I always say. Them is the same one’s that destroyed Guyana.

    • san  On 10/31/2011 at 8:16 am

I agree with you send them all back to Guyana. Let the Guyanese government deal with the nonsense. Ship them back soon so other can walk the street safe and people do not have to worry about losing their wife husband or child. Deport the Head Kali Priest Lesis Pancham so that he do no say in US and tell the young women in the Kali Temple that “Kali Ma Say to Sleep with them and have babies” Close them down and sent him back to Guyana

  • sfseals  On 10/09/2011 at 5:08 pm

I married a beautiful Guyanese woman in 1972 but she was dating a married man who she thought had money. The INS found out about all this and wanted to deport her and she asked me to intervene which i did because i would have lost her anyway, To make a long story short she got this guy to divorce his wife (she actually divorced him on grounds of adultry) and she married him behind my back
lying to me about it. The story is much more complicated but bottom line is Guyana is a really f/d up country and people are forced to do what she did.
I am happily married now to a real beauty queen but this woman is educated not like my first wifel.

    • sweetbaby  On 10/09/2011 at 8:25 pm

One bad experience doesn’t make everyone in Guyana bad…

      • san  On 10/31/2011 at 7:55 am

Guyanese is making it a habit now. First it is Life Insurance Fraud, Mortgage Fraud, and now Credit Card Fraud. Not to forget they are Using the Kali Temple to get their Victims. Head of the Game is Lewis Pancham Kali temple at 107-34 Inwood Street in Queens

    • san  On 11/08/2011 at 6:31 am

At leat this new woman you married have an education. She is not a house theift have a husband in Jail, have grown kids and is not shopping around for a life insurance poloicy for your x-wife. That is the good thing about it. You move on for something better not worse. An I am sure you do not have to work 2 shifts and you always have money to dress nice and take a hair cut. So count your blessing your left the bad for the good.

  • satchi rajaram  On 10/09/2011 at 9:19 pm

Need to see their names and large pictures so we can all shame them as well.
They got rich by scheming people.
Do not send back to Guyana as they will create trouble there for the poor people that are left back home.
Deal with them in NY as they can get a more harsh penalty there.

  • Satchi  On 10/10/2011 at 10:29 pm

Do not send them back to Guyana. Deal with them yourself as they are now US citizens. They are con men and women and Guyana has enough problems of its own. So take them out in a F 16 and drop then in the ocean with out any life support, as they deserve that. Leave them to the sharks.

    • san  On 10/31/2011 at 8:09 am

Send them back to Guyans. Why does the US have to deal with Guyana Garbage. Lewis Pancham, Ronald Malley Bettey, Peter Richard, James Baskanand, Motilall Ravi Persaud, Imran Khan, Jaibobin Lallman are all connected. Not to forget Shane Ramsundar and family who was trained by the famous teacher Lewis Pancham who was in jail himself in Trinidad. How he became a US citizen? He is 65 yo old making babies and refused to take care of this child. His and his girlfriend tricked a rich man and have him take care of his child and girlfriend. Leelawatie Motilall also took someone else husband while hers is in Jail and shopping the Life Insurance Policy for the man wife. These People are a group of big Crooks will do anything for money. Deport them back to Guyana to do their nonsense. We have no time for their tricky bull****. .

  • sfseals  On 10/11/2011 at 3:09 am

You will need a bigger plane than an F16 which is an obsolete fighter jet!
Use an Airbus A380 which holds hundreds because by the time you catch all the a/h’s who did this you will need a plane of that size!

  • sfseals  On 10/11/2011 at 3:12 am

Ever notice that all former Soviet influenced countries breed criminals and ripoffs because that was the way they beat the system which favored only select people in the that system. Go figure

  • thetruth  On 10/11/2011 at 3:46 am

I’m pretty sure not all of those captured were not Guyanese. And just because there are a few scumbags like these out there it doesn’t mean the entire Guyanese community is the same. I come from a well-educated, hardworking family. We do not steal or cheat and we are proud Guyanese people. These people make us all look bad.

  • sfseals  On 10/11/2011 at 4:12 am

  • sfseals  On 10/11/2011 at 4:15 am

I have the feeling now only a few actually perpetrated the crime and the rest are “me toos”whom knew nothing about the mechanics of the crime
the media as it often does exaggerated the event to sell its product.

  • Ron  On 10/11/2011 at 8:39 am

These people were criminally educated in the US. Deporting them will make them take their criminal skills to Guyana. I say deal with them in the US and keep the problem where it originalted.

  • Yvonne Austin  On 10/12/2011 at 7:39 am

Yes, deal with them in USA where the crime was committed, at least they will get the Time for the Crime. In Guyana, they probably have Friends in the Upper Echelon of that Society so their crime would be ignored. THEY DO THE CRIME SO THEY MUST DO THE TIME (IN THE USA)

    • san  On 11/08/2011 at 6:42 am

Well Yvonne, I got new for you. It looks like the group consist of everything from the top to the boottom of the career field. The most important thing they have is the Famous Voodoo Man Mr Lewis Pancham who was in Jail himself in Trinidad. Now he is in the USA assuring people no matter how big is the crime including immigration he can handle it and take them out of Jail. This Lewis Pancham have lots of Voodoo Books which is bought from a book store named Butala Emporium at 37-46 74 st Jackson Heigts, in Queens. One of his Girlfriend Parbattie Davakia Ramlakan says he have a book by the name of Indar Jal which is banned in the West Indies. People says he can take away your husband or wife and handle any legal procedures. So if these Guys stay int he USA they will be free like Ravi Persaud.

  • Paul  On 10/14/2011 at 2:33 pm

I was born in Guyana in 1963 into two large families. Both sides of my family are hard workers and held various positions: GDF – my father a charter member, Bank of Guyana,Police officers, teachers – several, ministers, doctors, etc. all of whom, had NEVER been in trouble with the law, but obey and enforce it. We will not allow the illegal and corrupt acts affect my family and the massive of honest Guyanese people, not only in Guyana, but around the world. Yes, we have criminals, some very hard, but the larger body are law abiding and unright citizens.

  • Lynette Andrews Baker  On 10/26/2011 at 8:21 pm

I agree wholeheartedly with all the comments made so far. Guyanese who emigrate to the US should make ample use of the opportunities that are available, not going around giving the people of Guyana a bad name. They are a lot of law abiding Guyanese living and working in this country. Not only should they go to prison in the US but they should be given some tough hard work when in prision, so that when they are released they would not want to go back inside again.

    • san  On 11/08/2011 at 6:50 am

If you want them to have a hard time. Then the main man need to get caught by FBI. While Lewis Panchan at 107-34 Inwood St in Jamaica Queens is out they will be out. Not to forget his Son In Law Davendranauth Sukhu and his girl friend Sanita they also knows the same Voodoo as Lewis Pancham. They have books an copies on CD. So they are not going to have any hard time in USA. Forget that. Even if they go to Jail it is the tax payers money that pays for them. Take for example Richard James and Baskanand Motilall they ownes many huses. In the case with Motilall who collect the rent from his 4 houses. It is the Wife Lilowtie Motilall but yet the City have to take care of these people in Jail.

  • annom  On 12/08/2011 at 8:17 am

Some of these Guyanese will not stop or change. They are involved in life Insurance Fraud, Real Estate Fraud, Credit Card Fraud, ID Fraud and not to Forget Husband and Wife Fraud. They are so bold they will steal even your wife or husband and have them work as slaves and threaten them so they can not leave. In the year 2011 a group of both educated and uneducated Guyanese make innocent humans slaves right here in the USA. It is time to stop. They are all family related. This is a GT family thing. They are so big the President of their country cannot control them. Only the US can deal with these wicked people.

  • sanita  On 08/07/2012 at 7:57 am

    Why all this crime

  • neela  On 06/20/2014 at 9:21 pm

They should send them back to Guyana

  • gigi  On 06/21/2014 at 5:27 pm

These white collar criminal masterminds will now languish in prison and their skills put to use to benefit the US govt. Does anyone think the US govt will shackle them in chains and put them on a midnight flight heading to Guyana, like they do with the countless American-Guyanese petty criminals and small time drug dealers? No. Guyana ain’t getting these guys. Once again Guyana loses out…

  • Cyril Balkaran  On 06/25/2014 at 9:45 am

These people have chosen a life of Crime and should be treated as Criminals under the Law of the USA. They were only born in a place called Guyana. They have also broken the law of Guyana when they decided to enter a life of crime and criminality. The Ramotar Presidency should revoke their citizenship and let the USA deal with them. Send them to jail for life. They failed to learn what hardship teaches. We become stronger people and draw strength from our hard experiences in life. Guyana never teaches one to become a criminal. This is the free choice of the individual with a mind set of his or her own. How can the State be held accountable for this negative and grave state of affairs. The authorities must publish a listing of these criminals with a big sized photo for proper identity and send it all over the USA. We are living in dangerous times when the mind of man is gone haywire and he is not in control. Life is full of challenges and we must respond to such with greater care and sanity. Poverty is sometimes a blessing in disguise. To hanker after riches that are ill gotten will lead you in this state of affairs. It is only a matter of time when more thieves and criminals will be parading the District AG’s Offices. We reap exactly what we sow.

  • Rose  On 07/11/2015 at 7:56 pm

These criminals should never see day light again, the justice system in the USA is greatly admired. Put them away, strip them of their proprieties and leave them penny less. Robing the government ,you are not going to get away with it. Every scam one could think of , these low life Guyanese commits. That is why the great United States, will be the greatest.

  • Faithfulsupercool  On 02/19/2016 at 4:23 pm

Glad you guys are busted.Want easy life. ..really can’t be jealous of people

  • Denise Sampson  On 02/20/2016 at 7:03 pm

Jail they passes they making it hard for hard working American to get a loan to purchase homes & cars. Since in Guyana they like to live large beyond their means. Crooks

    • Albert  On 02/21/2016 at 2:27 pm

If you cannot get loans to buy a car or house in these easy times something is definitely wrong. The Fed had interest rates at zero for a long time and car dealers and real estate brokers are begging for buyers..
